Acupuncture
|
Acupuncture is an over three thousand years old empiric therapeutic method. The principle of acupuncture is to insert needles into defined acupuncture points on the body, ear, hand and jaw and to stimulate the sensitive points. The stimulation generally occurs with acupuncture needles inserted into the body.
The insertion depth varies between a few mm to several cm. Apart from needle acupuncture laser acupuncture is popular above all with patients sensitive to pain and children. It is also possible to locally warm up individual acupuncture points. It generally occurs with pressed mugwort (Moxibustion).
By stimulating certain acupuncture points it is possible to act upon the most different experiences of pains. The guideline is:
Acupuncture may heal what is in disorder, acupuncture cannot heal what is destroyed.
Acupuncture has particularly proved its worth in pain management and therapy of functional disorders. Orderly applied acupuncture has few side effects. Serious complications are the exception. Please also refer to our information sheet of the Qualitätsgemeinschaft für ganzheitliche Medizin (Community for quality in integrated general medicine) on acupuncture. In the frame of pain management, acupuncture is throughout subsidized (with a few exceptions) on request by the compulsory heath insurance companies.
