Light therapy
For millions of years the day and night rhythm has governed all living creatures. The human too is subjected to the change from light to dark. The more it is astonishing that only since 1984 a disease occurring in 20% of the population at our latitude is related to an impaired adaptation to the day-night-rhythm: The winter depression.
Each fifth of us will be affected by it in October/November, and only in February/March the mood of the patients brightens up. The symptoms of this depression can be improved by a daily exposure (2 hours) to light therapy. With this therapy the human eye is exposed to an artificial light, which resembles the sunlight within the light spectrum. Moreover the light therapy can be combined with the administration of the natural and not addictive remedy against insomnia, namely Melatonin.
