Orthomolecular therapy
|
Vitamins, minerals and particular substances which the humans need for preserving their health are called vital substances. As many of these vital substances cannot be produced by the human organism they have to be supplied via nutrition. A healthy and well-balanced nutrition is the basis for the body's supply with vital substances. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) regularly publishes up-to-date recommendations on nutritional supply. These recommendations refer to the daily minimum quantities required to avoid long-term deficiencies. In special life stages and for certain risk groups the need for vital substances is particularly high, e.g.
- in periods of higher mental and physical stress
- during the growth phase of children and youths
- during pregnancy and breast feeding
- in the menopause or hormone administration
- for elderly and sick persons
- in case of environmental pollution
- in high stress situations
- smoking and regular alcohol consumption
For these groups of persons the orthomolecular medicine puts on optimal dosing in the sense of orthos = correct, good and molecular, molecule = module, and not on the usually proclaimed minimal dosing. All vitamins (except for vitamin A, D, and K) are applied in a much higher dosage than recommended by the German Nutrition Society (DGE). Also minerals and trace elements are administered under regular high dosage over a longer period of time. The one who offers regularly an optimum quantity of vital substances has good chances:
- to definitely improve his health condition
- to maintain vitality and performance on a long-term basis
- to slow down the natural ageing process and to extend life expectation
